Pakistani actress Faryal Mehmood has undeniably made her mark in the performing arts arena, particularly for her array of roles in mega-hit drama serials. Mehmood has been one of the most dynamic and versatile actors of our times and has always stood out from the crowd due to her unbridled charisma which often emanates through the screen. The actress has taken on several pivotal roles in major television dramas such as Baba Jani, Laal Ishq, Raqeeb Se, Gustakh, and several others. Now the renowned talent has taken on new terrains making her first film debut as the lead character in Iram Parveen Bilal’s “Wakhri” (One of a Kind).

After taking on an array of roles for nearly a decade, Faryal Mehmood will play the film's protagonist Noor, a schoolteacher who accidentally unleashes the power of social media, unabashedly challenging the patriarchy. As she tries to keep her online identity a secret, she’s gradually exposed to society’s dangerous underbelly and forced to manage the repercussions. The film itself aims to challenge social media trolling and encourage social justice causes that have remained prevalent in our society.

Now that Iram Parveen Bilal, the ‘I’ll Meet You There’ filmmaker has finished filming her latest movie, “Wakhri”, fans are surely in for a treat as the film depicts something fresh and new for the Pakistani audience. “Wakhri” also features Gulshan Majeed and other prominent social media influencers, Faryal Mehmood is rumored to have played an outstanding depiction of Wakhri, all alongside the work of an exceptionally dynamic and talented team who brought the motion picture together. Prominent names in the film industry such as Abid Aziz Merchant (I’ll Meet You There, Sandstorm), Apoorva Bakshi (Delhi Crime), and Roman Paul (“Paradise Now,” “Wadjda,” “Waltz With Bashir”) have produced the film.

Tapping into thought-provoking and never spoken social matters, Wakhri follows the premise of patriarchal social media trolling and harassment. Faryal Mehmood will certainly be the perfect fit for this film as the director has already deemed the plot ‘grounded masala’ for its very diverse blend of actors, musicians, and storyline.
