What is Kanye West Controversy all about?

Brands are cutting ties with Kanye West, him losing billionaire status and his lawyers leaving him. A lot is going on in the life of Kanye West and it is hard to keep yourself updated. But do you know how it all started?

The moves come after Kanye on October 3 wore a ‘White Lives Matter’ t-shirt at Paris Fashion Week, a phrase that the Anti-Defamation League says is a white supremacist slogan. Five days later, he tweeted “I’m a bit sleepy tonight but when I wake up, I’m going death con 3 On JEWISH PEOPLE”, prompting media attention. After it was widely criticised as antisemitic, he lost access to his Twitter account as well.
On October 11, 2022, Vice reported on unaired segments of an interview with West by Tucker Carlson on Fox News aired a few days prior, which contained West making several conspiratorial, racist and antisemitic statements. West claimed that Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger, who he called a "known eugenic[ist]", founded Planned Parenthood with the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) "to control the Jew population." He added that "When I say Jew, I mean the 12 lost tribes of Judah, the blood of Christ, who the people knew as the race Black really are" and that "This is who our people are. The blood of Christ. This, as a Christian, is my belief." West also disapproved of his children going to a school that celebrates Kwanzaa, adding that "I prefer my kids knew Hanukkah than Kwanzaa. At least it will come with some financial engineering." Fox News redacted these segments in their original broadcast.
Also in October 2022, Van Lathan, a former staff member of TMZ, said that West said he "loved Hitler and the Nazis" in a previous interview with TMZ that was edited to remove these comments. Lathan and a Jewish TMZ staff member objected to West's comments. Around the same time, it was announced that an episode of LeBron James' show The Shop: Uninterrupted featuring West would not be released due to West allegedly making antisemitic comments during the recording of the episode. On October 17, 2022, he would appear on the podcast Drink Champs, recorded the day prior, where he would claim that he was being targeted by "the Jewish media" and "Zionist Jews", and stating "You really influenced me to get on this anti-Semite vibe and, you know, I'm here to finish the job. I'm here to not back down. They should've never let you niggas get money."
