Half Hour With Natalia Awais

Half Hour With Natalia Awais
Get to know Natalia Awais an actor with that girl next door vibe

Tell us a little bit about yourself. Where are you from and where did you grow up?
I am basically from Kashmir, but was born in Islamabad, and grew up in Karachi.

What was the definitive moment that brought you to the world of acting? Tell us about your first project.
When I was in school, I acted in a play, and that just clicked for me. But my official first project was during my
university, it was called Yeh Ishq, directed by Badar Mehmood.

Did you always want to be an actor?
Always, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

As a young actor in the industry, do you think women are getting better roles in the Pakistan drama industry today than they did before?
To be honest, no, women played better roles before and I wish to see more of, for instance, Haseena Moin’s characters!

Female actors are sometimes pitted against their female contemporaries. Does that affect you?
No it doesn’t, because I have been lucky that way; the actors I have worked with have always supported me, and helped me with acting.

In the work that you have done so far, which role has been your favourite and why?
Rohina from Ruswai, not because of the character but because I learnt a lot from the director Rubina Ashraf and the
senior cast.

Any plans for the silver screen?
I’d like to, but when I get a role that would make a difference. No clichés!

What kind of cinema do you watch? Name three all-time favourite movies.
From war to psychological thrillers, so my favourite movies are A Boy in Stripped Pyjamas, Lost in Translation and The Psycho.

Do you have a dream role? Something that you are keen to do in the future?
Yes, I do, something more realistic, something where a woman’s real struggle is shown, not the kind that’s portrayed in our media.

What’s your go-to outfit?
Skinnies, crop top, and a choker!

Favourite holiday destination?
Koh Samui.

How do you keep fit? Any tips you want to share?
I workout regularly, which involves CrossFit and weightlifting. PS: A girl doesn’t get broad by lifting weights.

In three words describe Natalia Awais.
Dramatic, hardworking, inquisitive.
