'Sajal Never Wanted to Just work in Bollywood for the Name'
Sajal has a huge screen presence and possesses quite a filmy beauty. She is a very easygoing and simple girl, observant and a key learner. She started acting when she was so young (17 years), starring in her first drama serial, Mehmoodabad Ki Malkayien. She won the hearts of audiences and paved her way to becoming the highest paid actress in Pakistan. As Shehroze Sabzwari puts it, ‘she is public ke jaan’.
Her last drama Gul e Rana was a major blockbuster with huge ratings. At just 22 years of age, she has starred opposite famous actors including Mikaal Zulfiqar, Shehryar Munawer and Fawad khan.
Love and admiration for her has spread across the borders also as talent has no boundaries. Boney Kapoor was auditioning for the lead opposite the legendary Sridevi in her comeback film titled Mom when he saw Sajal’s video clips and pictures. He was convinced that she was perfect for the role. Sajal travelled to Dubai to meet Kapoor and his wife Sridevi, who had especially flown to meet her instead of sending their casting director. They connected with each other in their very first meeting. The meeting lasted for four hours, where the Kapoors played great hosts and made Sajal feel comfortable.
Sajal was bowled by their simplicity and humbleness. Sajal said that she never wanted to just work in Bollywood for the name, but had decided that if she would ever work there it would be because of a great script, a great banner and a respectful role. To this Sridevi replied, "It is all destiny. This was destined for you to be a part of”. The film will have intense scenes between the two leading ladies who play mother and daughter.
Within 15 days Sajal flew to India where she stayed in one of the best hotels with her mother. Boney Kapoor and Sridevi treated her like their own daughter so she was pampered to the maximum. After the first spell she visited the Taj Mahal with her mother and took a tour of Delhi. Sridevi and Sajal would have meals together and their daughter Jhanvi became a great friend to Sajal.
The movie is slated to release in November this year, starring Nawazudin, Akshaye Khanna and Adnan siddique in supporting roles.
Sajal's Debut Pakistani movie, Zindagi kitni Haseen hai where she plays a VJ is also be released this year around Eid. She is sharing screen space with Feroz Khan in the Anjum Shehzad directorial for which she has worked extensively on her look by shopping from various international brands.
Rumours are abuzz that Sajal will be working opposite our very own heartthrob, Imran Abbas, in her next TV serial. We can only hope that this follows through.
