Half hour with Samar Jafri

How did your journey in acting begin?
I started off with Anwar Maqsood Sahib's ‘Pawnay 14 August’ back in 2012. I auditioned for it and, luckily, bagged the role. This is how my acting journey began.

What inspired your transition from singing to acting, considering that you used to upload song covers on Instagram before pursuing acting?
The sentiment of having both interests from the beginning remained constant; there wasn't a transition per se. It was the production of quality content by the Pakistani drama industry that truly inspired me to want to become a part of it.

Are there any specific roles or genres you are eager to explore?
I really want to do horror, comedy, and action thrillers! Considering the fact that comedy is one of the most difficult genres to master, I would love to take on that challenge.

You've portrayed the mature character of 'Fakhir' in 'Mayi Ri' at a young age. What are your plans for future roles? Will you pursue similar mature characters, or will you explore roles that are closer to your age?
Well, Fakhir was a young character too. I would love to do something similar to my age, but if the script demands a mature character, then I don’t mind playing one.

What was your experience like working with Aina Asif in ‘Mayi Ri’? Will we be seeing you on screens anytime soon again, perhaps a new project?
Aina is an amazing human being and a super talented actress! Of course, I had a great time being on set with her. Nothing is on paper right now, but what if I tell you that there’s something in the pipeline?

What is a motto or philosophy that you live by?
‘Your story is written by the best of all writers’.

Your secret talent?
I’m pretty good at roasting people (laughs).

What hobbies or activities do you enjoy in your free time?
I am a foodie, so I love trying different restaurants with my boys, and of course, I love playing cricket. This is what I usually do in my free time.

What does a typical day look like for you when you are not on set?
I'll sleep until the evening and then bother all my friends by asking them to keep me company because I get super bored whenever I have nothing to do. In short, you'll probably find me at one of my friends' places on my free day.

What are your professional goals for the year, and what do you hope to achieve in your acting career by the end of 2024?
I want one of my originals to top the charts of this streaming platform this year. Secondly, I really want to do a project like ‘Mayi Ri’, which delivers a message and leaves an impact on our youth.

Lastly, how would you describe Samar Jafri in three words?
Persistent, cultured and passionate.
