Tell us a bit about yourself and your music that you’re currently working on.
I’m an Islamabad based development professional. A mom to two amazing boys. A bit of a fitness enthusiast with questionable eating habits. I’m working on a couple of songs. You’ll get to hear them pretty soon!
What first got you into music?
I can’t even begin to remember. Practically as far back as memory takes me. Just the love of music I guess! It’s always been an integral part of my growth. Come what may. The force is strong!
Who inspired you to make music?
Music itself. The fact that it has so much impact. That it responds to emotions and occasions of all kinds. It’s incredible. And if you’re able to create something that makes even an iota of an impact on someone - that’s pretty amazing. Generally though, I draw inspiration from everything. Life. Experiences. People.
How would you describe the music that you typically create?
Electro-pop. Though I like to experiment with different styles.
What is your creative process like?
Very random. I’ve barely ever been able to sit myself down and focus on creating pieces. I could be driving, chilling or at work and think of a tune or lyrics that I’d immediately record or note on my phone. It’s not structured really. The creative process is triggered as soon as I experience an emotion.
Who would you most like to collaborate with?
I’ve had the sheer luck of getting the chance to collaborate with my favorites including Abdullah Siddiqui and Sarmad Ghafoor. Nobody in particular in mind at the moment though I’m keen as long as the vibe is a match!
Do you sing in the shower? What songs?
I mean who doesn’t! Haha. Whatever’s on my mind at the time.
What would you be doing right now, if it wasn’t for your music career?
My music career started way after I had already settled into my main profession. I am a development practitioner and absolutely love the work! Music is a side gig that I’m pursuing and pacing in parallel.
How do you feel the social media has impacted the music business?
Social media has been amazing for music. You’re getting access to so much talent that would’ve otherwise been suppressed! A brilliant tool to connect artists, bring the community together and a much needed platform to showcase talent.
Which famous musicians (local and international) do you admire?
That’s a crazy long list honestly! So many names, known and less known, but all contributing wonders to the music industry globally.
What is the best advice you’ve been given?
The time is always right!
If you could change anything about Pakistan’s music industry, what would it be?
It has massive potential for growth. The industry needs to be strong and accessible to allow artists of all styles and genres to benefit from and contribute to the economy of the country.
