You've created some incredibly unconventional beauty looks. Has there ever been an idea that felt too ambitious to pull off?
Many times! But with the right accessories, hair, and makeup, even the wildest vision becomes wearable.
When you're starting a new editorial, what usually comes first: the makeup, the accessory, or the story behind it?
I create the accessory first, then I think about other things accordingly.
If you had an unlimited budget and complete creative freedom, what kind of shoot would you create?
A reversed jungle: wild animals roam free while models are caged inside, draped in animal-skin couture with my gold and silver statement pieces featuring real stones.
When you're creating a look, what's the one detail you believe people often overlook but makes all the difference?
Knowing the face structure first, and then creating the look according to it, because you can't apply the same formula to every face.
Which part of the creative process do you enjoy the most: conceptualising, creating, or seeing the final image come to life?
Seeing the final image. That's the moment my imagination finally becomes real, and it's satisfying every time.
If you could collaborate with any fashion designer, photographer, or creative director, who would be at the top of your list?
Dream to work with: fashion designer Michael Cinco, photographer Tim Walker, and creative director Sean McGirr. One should dream big.
What's one beauty trend you think deserves a comeback, and one you'd happily leave in the past?
Comeback: Thin, sharp 90s brown lips with kohl. So chic on desi features. Leave behind: Over-baked, cakey full-coverage base. Let real skin shine.
Outside of beauty and fashion, where do you find creative inspiration?
Inspirations are all around me. The colours of flowers, feathers of birds, animal skin. Nature is my biggest mood board.
What's one piece of advice you wish someone had given you when you first started your career?
Stop waiting to be perfect. Start now with what you have. Your work will teach you everything else.
Finally, what's next for Umar Aziz? Is there a dream project or creative goal you're hoping to bring to life?
Next is global. Taking Pakistani artistry to international runways. My dream is to see my work on a global fashion stage.
