DENGUE, HOW TO STAY SAFE

DENGUE, HOW TO STAY SAFE

Every year, dengue infects hundreds and thousands of people, and some end up losing their lives to this deadly virus. It spreads in no time if no proper precaution is taken. This year, dengue cases are on the rise in Pakistan again as there is flood water everywhere, giving a very large place for mosquitoes to breed. Dengue is a deadly virus, and we need to save ourselves from this as “Prevention is better than cure”.

You can protect yourself and your family against dengue by taking the following precautions:

  1. Apply mosquito repellent to exposed skin. Do not apply it on cuts, wounds, or irritated skin. Keep this away from eyes or mouth.
  2. Wear long sleeves and long pants to cover your arms and legs. It won’t show your skin and will make it difficult for them to directly bite you.
  3. Use mosquito nets while sleeping to have a peaceful sleep and stay protected from mosquitos.
  4. Turn over empty buckets so that they do not collect excess water. Cover the buckets and drums that are used for storing water.
  5. Clean out all empty flowerpots and ensure you do not over-water potted plants.
  6. Clean and empty water bowls for pets at home and water bowls for birds in the balcony.
  7. Discard the plants that you keep in water at home.
  8. The mosquitoes that carry the dengue viruses are most active from dawn to dusk; keep windows and doors closed during these hours.
