Nashmia Asad Khan Beyond the Frame

You’ve had a standout presence on the runway this season, walking back to back at BCW, LFW and Hussain Rehar’s solo show. Looking back at your journey so far, what do you think has helped you carve out such a strong space for yourself as a model?

I always told myself that no matter how far I go, I wouldn’t lose my sense of self, and I guess that’s what always stands out.

What first drew you to modelling, and at what point did it feel like this was becoming more than just an opportunity, but a career?

I always wanted to be a model, literally since I was a child, so it was never just an opportunity. It was always a career to me.

What are three things currently on your bucket list?

Travel, set up my new home and work with a few of my favourite brands. 

In an industry that often focuses on appearance, how do you ensure your individuality and personality remain central to your work?

I try not to do what everybody else is doing and stay true to myself. I keep doing what I like doing and don’t lose my own style just for a trend.

What does it take, beyond aesthetics, to have longevity in modelling today? What qualities do you think are often underestimated?

A lot of patience, belief and self-confidence.

What’s your ultimate cheat meal, or a cuisine you can never say no to?

Not going to lie, I’d never say no to KFC on a cheat day.

The public often sees the polished final image, but not the discipline behind it. What does the unseen side of your work actually look like?

For me it looks like maintenance, making sure my nails are always done, regular facials and hair care, getting enough sleep, eating clean most of the time, and working out every day so that I can look good on camera every time.

You’re constantly in front of the camera, but off duty, what does Nashmia Khan look like, and what’s something people are usually surprised to learn about you?

Off duty, I’m either at training, 717 salon or catching up with my friends. I feel like people are usually surprised when I tell them I’m a competitive athlete too. (Smiles)
