A Film To Be Based On Christchurch Mosque Shooting

The New Zealand mosque massacre in which a white supremacist slaughtered 51 people is to be turned into a movie called Hello Brother, its producer told media at the Cannes Film Festival yesterday. 

Egyptian film-maker and academic Moez Masoud is said to be the director. His movie, Clash, was the opening film in Cannes’ Un Certain Regard in 2016.The film’s title were the words spoken by 71-year-old victim Hati Mohammed Daoud Nabi, who opened the door to the gunman of Al Noor mosque , where 42 people died. The central characters are “a family facing death and destruction in Afghanistan who escape with their lives”.

"In Christchurch, on March 15, the world witnessed an unspeakable crime against humanity," Masoud told Variety, saying members of his team were currently in New Zealand to meet survivors and families of the victims.

"The story that 'Hello Brother' will bring to audiences is just one step in the healing process so that we might all better understand each other, and the root causes of hatred, racism, supremacy and terrorism."
