For years, the conversation around fitness has centered on transformation - lose weight, get toned, bounce back, and push harder. But for many women, wellness is beginning to mean something different.

Across Islamabad, more women are seeking spaces that feel welcoming rather than intimidating, where movement isn’t tied to unrealistic expectations or the pressure to look a certain way before walking through the door.

One studio embracing that shift is The Movement Studio in DHA Phase 2, Islamabad - a women-only social wellness and movement space built around community, connection, and sustainable movement.

Founded by Aimen Zara and Hafsah Zia, the studio was created around a simple idea: movement should support your life - not consume it. Instead of focusing on quick fixes or “perfect” bodies, TMS encourages women to build a sustainable relationship with movement through consistency, strength, and self-care.

“We wanted to create the kind of place we wished existed ourselves,” the founders explain. “A space where women could show up exactly as they are—whether they’re wearing a matching activewear set or oversized pajamas, whether they’re 22 or 62. The important thing is simply showing up.” That philosophy has resonated with women from all walks of life. Students, working professionals, mothers, retirees, beginners, and experienced exercisers all share the same studio floor.

Rather than expecting everyone to fit a single image of fitness, the studio offers a variety of classes designed to meet women wherever they are in their wellness journey. From Mat Pilates, Yoga, Strength & Cardio, Dance Fit, and Mobility & Recovery to Prenatal and Postpartum Yoga, the emphasis remains on accessible movement in a supportive environment.

Unlike many traditional fitness environments, classes are intentionally designed to be welcoming rather than intimidating. Instructors emphasize proper form, encouragement, and progress over perfection, creating an atmosphere where beginners feel just as comfortable as experienced members.

But what has helped distinguish The Movement Studio isn’t just its class schedule - it’s the sense of community that has grown around it.

Over the past few months, the studio has become known for creative pop-up workshops and themed wellness experiences that turn movement into something people genuinely look forward to. Events such as Moonlight Pilates, candlelit Yin Yoga sessions, Chand Raat dance workshops, and themed community experiences have transformed fitness into something more social, relaxed, and enjoyable.

Their latest workshops have included concepts like Pajamas & Pilates, where participants arrive in their favorite pajamas for a morning Pilates class before staying for coffee and conversation - a reflection of the studio’s belief that wellness should feel approachable rather than performative.

The founders say they intentionally wanted to move away from the idea that women need to look a certain way before they deserve to participate.“ There’s often this pressure to have the perfect outfit, the perfect body, or already be fit enough before joining a class. We wanted to remove that pressure completely. Whether you come in designer activewear or an old T-shirt, whether you’re twenty or sixty, you’re welcome here. You’re here - and that’s what matters. ”

That same community-first mindset extends throughout the studio. Alongside its movement classes, TMS regularly collaborates with local businesses, many of them women-led, and hosts pop-up events that bring together movement, conversation, mindfulness, and creativity. As conversations around wellness continue to evolve, spaces like The Movement Studio reflect a growing shift away from all-or-nothing fitness culture and toward something more balanced: moving because it feels good, taking care of your body without guilt, and finding community along the way.

For many women, that may be exactly the kind of wellness they’ve been looking for all along.

At The Movement Studio, the goal isn’t to help women become smaller - it’s to help them become stronger, healthier, more confident, and more at home in their own bodies.
