Xiaomi has rapidly evolved from a smartphone brand into a global technology powerhouse, leading innovation across AI, IoT, and smart living. In Pakistan, the brand’s growth has been driven by a clear focus on accessibility, innovation, and trust.
In this conversation, Sufian Ahmed, Director of Marketing at Xiaomi Pakistan, discusses the company’s vision, the role of AI in shaping the next generation of devices, and how Xiaomi plans to lead Pakistan’s digital transformation through its “Human x Car x Home” strategy.
1. Can you tell us a bit about yourself and share your vision for Xiaomi?
I’m Sufian Ahmed, Director of Marketing for Xiaomi in Pakistan, with over ten years of experience across various marketing categories. What excites me most about Xiaomi is its mission to make innovation accessible to everyone.
My vision is to strengthen Xiaomi’s position as a leader in technology and lifestyle innovation in Pakistan. I want to deepen consumer connections by localizing campaigns, enhancing user experiences, and driving awareness of Xiaomi’s full ecosystem — bringing our “Human x Car x Home” strategy to life.
2. What inspired you to pursue a career in marketing?
Marketing has always fascinated me because it blends creativity, psychology, and strategy. I’ve always admired how storytelling, supported by data-driven insights, can influence perceptions and inspire change. For me, marketing isn’t about selling products — it’s about building trust, shaping lifestyles, and creating long-term value. That philosophy continues to drive my work at Xiaomi every day.
3. How do you see the future of the telecom and mobile phone industry in Pakistan?
The industry has enormous untapped potential. With a young population and growing internet penetration, the outlook is bright. Yet around 38% of Pakistanis still don’t have access to smartphones or 4G connectivity — which presents a huge opportunity for digital inclusion.
As affordability improves, smartphones will play an even greater role in education, entrepreneurship, and financial empowerment. Xiaomi is fully committed to driving that transformation and ensuring no one is left behind.
4. Are you optimistic about customer response to the upcoming Xiaomi 15T Series?
Absolutely. Pakistani consumers have always shown incredible enthusiasm for Xiaomi launches, and the 15T Series is no exception. It combines innovation, design excellence, and performance — all at competitive price points. Early feedback has been outstanding, and we’re confident this launch will strengthen our leadership position.
What truly sets the Xiaomi 15T Series apart is its co-engineered Leica triple camera system. The Xiaomi 15T features main, ultra-wide, and telephoto lenses, while the 15T Pro adds a new Leica 5x Pro telephoto lens. With focal lengths from 15mm–230mm, users can capture everything from sweeping landscapes to detailed portraits. Combined with sleek design, efficient battery life, and an immersive display, it’s the ideal device for professionals, gamers, and creators alike.
5. Xiaomi is the world’s third-largest smartphone vendor. Do you believe the brand can surpass Samsung and Apple?
Xiaomi’s growth speaks for itself — in less than a decade, we’ve become one of the top three smartphone brands globally. Our edge lies in relentless innovation, strong R&D, and delivering real value for money.
With continued investment in AI, global expansion, and a robust ecosystem strategy, Xiaomi is well-positioned to challenge — and eventually surpass — established players. Our ultimate goal isn’t just market share; it’s building long-term value and trust among users worldwide.
6. With AI becoming a major focus, what kind of AI-powered features can users expect in Xiaomi’s upcoming models?
AI is central to Xiaomi’s innovation strategy. Our new models deliver smarter photography through real-time scene recognition, better optimization, and more intuitive interaction — including voice and gesture control.
At the core of this is Xiaomi AISP 2.0, which enhances depth, color, and tonal accuracy with PortraitLM 2.0, ColorLM 2.0, and improved Master Portrait bokeh effects. The Leica Street Photography mode and an exclusive 135mm focal length on the Pro model offer pro-level results.
Additionally, our collaboration with Google Gemini integrates generative AI, enabling context-aware, conversational experiences. And beyond smartphones, Xiaomi’s AI ecosystem extends across wearables, home devices, and cars — making connected living more seamless than ever.
7. The Pakistani smartphone market is highly competitive. How do you plan to stay ahead?
In such a crowded market, trust and ecosystem value make the difference. Xiaomi stands out by offering not just phones, but an interconnected ecosystem — from smart TVs to wearables and home products.
We maintain our edge through consistent innovation, reliable after-sales service, localized campaigns, and strong partnerships that improve accessibility. Our “premium at honest prices” approach continues to win loyalty among Pakistani users.
8. What are the biggest challenges in strengthening and growing Pakistan’s mobile phone industry?
The biggest challenges include high taxation, import restrictions, and economic instability — all of which impact pricing and affordability. Maintaining a stable supply chain and promoting local assembly are also key concerns.
At Xiaomi, we’re actively engaging with government authorities and stakeholders to address these barriers, expand local manufacturing, and make advanced technology more affordable and accessible.
9. How much is the mobile phone industry contributing to attracting foreign investment into Pakistan?
The industry plays a crucial role in bringing foreign investment. Global brands like Xiaomi bring not just capital, but also advanced technology, employment, and skills transfer through local manufacturing.
With the right policies and infrastructure, Pakistan’s mobile phone sector could become a key driver of economic growth, innovation, and long-term investment in the region.
