For Mawra Hocane and Ameer Gilani, their journey was a delicate balance of both—woven through years of friendship, shared moments, and an unspoken certainty that grew stronger with time. From crossing paths in law school to sharing the screen in Sabaat, their bond was built on mutual admiration and an effortless understanding.

In a world where celebrity weddings are grand spectacles, theirs was an intimate, closely guarded celebration, spanning Lahore and Islamabad. From heartfelt traditions to meaningful personal touches, every moment was a reflection of who they are: deeply rooted in family, bound by love, and completely in sync.

In their first interview as husband and wife, Mawra and Ameer open up about the moments that mattered, the emotions that ran high, and the secret to pulling off one of the most well-kept surprises of the year. With laughter, nostalgia, and a hint of magic, they take us through the journey that led them here—proving that sometimes, the best love stories are the ones you never see coming.
You two just pulled off what has to be the best-kept secret of the year! How did you manage to plan an entire wedding while keeping it completely under wraps?
Mawra: We wanted to keep it to ourselves, at least through the preparatory phase or for as long as we could, so we could feel everything deeply and be in the moment. It was all so overwhelming in a beautiful way.
Ameer: I’m a very introverted person, so more than Mawra, it was my idea—and she loved it!

Mawra: And about the wedding secret being well-kept—well, we’re both lawyers, so the non-disclosure agreements worked big time for us! Haha.
Were there moments when you almost slipped up, or someone almost found out? Any funny close calls?
Mawra: We were shooting together until just 10 days before our wedding, so sometimes we’d start talking about it without realizing. But thankfully, we were able to cover it up well. On the last day, when we finally told our teams, they were definitely shocked—so I guess we didn’t give anything away at all!
“We had our nikkah at my parents’ home, my rukhsati from Urwa & Farhan’s place, and the valima at Ameer’s ancestral house. Every moment was deeply personal.” – Mawra
Let’s rewind to the very beginning—who popped the question, and how did the proposal go down? Was it a grand gesture, or an intimate moment?
Mawra: This is a tricky question because we crossed paths multiple times in law school but never really had a proper conversation. Our first real meeting was on the sets of Sabaat. I think I popped the question first—but just in my head! It sounds strange, but from the moment I met him on Sabaat, I knew it was either him or someone exactly like him! Haha.
Thankfully, we turned out to be the best of friends over the years, and everything was a slow, sweet, and progressive process. But honestly, the credit isn’t ours—it’s his mom who popped the question later in 2024, and for me, it was a no-brainer!

Did either of you suspect it was coming, or was it a total surprise?
Mawra: The wedding was planned by our parents within days, so that part definitely came as a surprise to us. We had to quickly squeeze it in between an ongoing project—this, we didn’t see coming!

A wedding across Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi! That sounds like the ultimate celebration. How did you come up with the idea of celebrating in three cities?
Mawra: Our nikkah was at my parents’ place in Lahore, my rukhsati was from Urwa and Farhan’s home in Lahore, and the valima was at Ameer’s ancestral home in Islamabad.
Ameer: The idea was to have all the special days at our respective homes. We’ve grown up there, and we continue to make memories there. Alhumdulillah, for the years to come, InshaAllah.
Mawra: And now, we’re heading back to work in a few days—to Karachi. So in a way, it does feel like the celebrations were spread across all three cities!
“For my nikkah, I restored my mother-in-law’s outfit and wore Ameer’s grandmother’s jewelry, over half a century old. I wanted to carry the old-world charm and simplicity.” – Mawra
What was the vibe of each city’s festivity, and did they reflect something personal about your journey together?
Mawra: Yes, I think our friendship reflects in everything we do, and that’s what it was all about for us.

Ameer: It truly felt like a joyful union of two families. All I remember is dancing, giggling, and smiling with all our friends and family. MashAllah, it couldn’t have been better!
Any memorable moments from the events that you’ll never forget?
Mawra: For me, it’s the way Ameer handles everything in a high-pressure situation. He’s so calm—it’s really beautiful.

Mawra: But the most memorable moment for me will always be our nikkah. Alhumdulillah, it’s truly been surreal.
Each wedding festivity comes with its own flair, and we’d love to know about the looks you both chose for your celebrations. Who did you wear for your main day and other events, and what inspired your choices?
“We were fully into our jobs on set, but as soon as they called pack-up, we were back to distributing invites and making all the calls!” – Mawra & Ameer on keeping wedding plans a secret while shooting.
Mawra: For my nikkah, I restored my mother-in-law’s outfit with Rano’s Heirloom and wore Ameer’s grandmother’s jewelry, which is more than half a century old. That, for me, was the most special part—I wanted to wear everything that carried the old-world charm and simplicity.
Ameer: I wore a traditional Pathan outfit for the nikkah, reflecting my Pashtoon heritage. It was designed by Munib Nawaz.

Mawra: I think it’d be called Khoobsurat.

If you could relive one moment from the wedding, what would it be?
Mawra: Every moment, with all our loved ones under one roof. It’s still surreal—hard to pick just one!
